US Public Interest Research Group’s (US PIRG) Larry McNeely takes on health reform critics in his Huffington Post column entitled “In the Public Interest.” In his article, “A Down Payment, Not Broken Promises,” he argues that instead of broken promises, Americans are beginning to see the advent of a reforming health care system with modest policy measures born of bipartisan ideas such as high risk insurance pools. Other early benefits include the extension of coverage to dependent children until age 26, the ban on pre-existing condition exclusions for kids, and the elimination of copays and deductibles for preventive care. He states these new proposals are giving Americans more choices and are just a sample of the choices to come if health reform is fully implemented.
