A number of California health system reform bills await a vote by either the Assembly or State Senate by the end of the current legislative session on August 31, 2010. However, as reported by Mercurynews.com, the State Senate has approved AB 2042, which would prevent insurers from increasing premiums more than once per year.  The bill is now in the State Assembly pending approval.   Other proposals that are currently pending include those that would establish California’s Health Insurance Exchange and require insurers to obtain state approval prior to increasing premiums.
