Missourians are poised to vote on a controversial ballot measure this Tuesday, August 3rd called the Missouri Health Care Freedom Act (Proposition C). Proposition C would exempt Missouri residents from complying with any of the requirements in health reform. Legal scholars have expressed doubts that Proposition C would have any actual legal effect, because federal laws generally take precedence over state laws. It is widely recognized, however, that Proposition C’s passage would be a significant political victory for opponents of health reform. More than 1 million Missourians are expected to turnout on August 3rd.
