In its August 24, 2010 letter to Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID), the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that repealing certain provisions of the health reform legislation that were estimated to generate savings in Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program would increase budget deficits by $455 billion. CBO director Elmendorf confirmed CBO’s original ten year projection of $124 billion in net budgetary savings due to the health reform legislation.
