The religious community has the opportunity to play a lead role in shaping the health care reform debate by elevating the moral voice in public discourse.
The National Coalition on Health Care's recommendations, based upon the consensus view of 85 member organizations, to make the system less complex, reduce overly high prices, and create a truly competitive health care marketplace. The goal of the paper is to augment the NCHC Principles and Specifications with a more detailed and selective set of policy recommendations on cost containment and quality improvement.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which is projected to cost $849 billion and cover 94 percent of the population by 2019, contains provisions for various delivery and payment reforms, new workforce intiatives, and a public insurance option with an opt-out provision for states.
