Governor Sam Brownback stated that Kansas will return a $31.5 million federal grant intended to aid in the creation and establishment of a health insurance exchange. This decision comes amid pressure from Republican lawmakers to block implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Budget shortfalls have heightened states’ sensitivity to the significant costs associated with the Medicaid prescription drug program. State officials in Kansas and Missouri are looking at suggestions for savings including increasing pricing competition and encouraging the use of generic drugs.
